Yamaha Motor Launches Snowmobile Blog

Maggie Fox, March 1 2007

Social Media Group is very pleased to announce the launch of Phase I of the Yamaha Motor Social Media Strategy. In support of the release of their new 2008 snowmobile models, Yamaha is reaching out to their community and snowmobilers everywhere with the Yamaha Sled Talk Blog. Intended as a resource and forum for “sled heads”, the blog is hosted by Chris Reid, Yamaha’s Senior Product and Research Manager. Chris is hoping to hear directly from consumers about what they think of the new models, the switch from two-stroke to four-stroke technology, and anything else under the sun, with the exception of product issues, which are reserved for the Customer Service Department!

Discussion

Is there any information on the web penetration and usage of the snowmobile market? Is there a strategy in terms of regularly updating the blog in non-snowmobile season? Good luck!
Great questions, Bob! Snowmobilers are pretty serious about their sport. At the moment, they're concentrated around a number of forums, some with tens of thousands of members. Of course, none of the forums are run by manufacturers, and this blog isn't meant to do anything but compliment the existing conversation that's already taking place, offering "sled heads" an opportunity to go straight to the source if they have questions about Yamaha products in particular (and these things do come up often - as you can see from the comments we have already received). The blog will continue to live when the warm weather comes (as the forums do, but at a somewhat reduced volume, as you would expect); a lot of snowmobilers are bike and ATV riders in the summer, and I'll leave it at that!
